Chromaflo Technologies is committed to being a truly global supplier of pigment dispersions through the development of local infrastructure to support the promotion of our products to all continents.
In the last 10 years, Chromaflo has invested in its business in South Africa as part of its strategy to support customers’ pigment dispersion needs in South Africa and other Sub-Saharan African countries.
Chromaflo recognizes that the African continent has an increasing commercial vibrancy. Sub-Saharan Africa has an estimated collective GDP at $1.7 trillion, which is roughly equal to Canada, South Korea or Russia’s, and the African continent is among the world’s rapidly growing economic regions.
While commodities are a significant part of the growth, other sectors, including wholesale and retail, transportation, telecommunications, and manufacturing are also key drivers. The long-term internal and external trends indicate that Africa’s economic prospects are strong.
Chromaflo Technologies has a long history of supplying to South Africa. For more than 20 years, Chromaflo exported a range of colorants from its Australian plant to both direct customers and its distributor.
In 2014 Chromaflo acquired a European-based colorant manufacturer Kreate, whose operation in Johannesburg including a manufacturing plant, laboratory and sales office. As a result, Chromaflo Technologies South Africa was created to support legacy Chromaflo and Kreate customers. Chromaflo then invested in a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in 2015 to support the growing business.
In 2019, Chromaflo further invested in South Africa with the acquisition of two local colorant companies, Liquid Colors and Rolfes, to step into a position as the leading colorant manufacturer in South Africa. This combination provided Chromaflo South Africa with a solid platform in both volume and technology, coupled with a diverse range of products to further increase Chromaflo’s regional footprint.
At that point, having now outgrown the existing facility, Chromaflo moved again in 2020 to a new facility located in Johannesburg. Further investment was made to the plant to align it to the standard of Chromaflo’s other plants, including a substantial new floor plan, solvent-suitable capabilities, and the addition of mills and mixers.
With a generous basket of technologies to choose from, Chromaflo is optimizing its product offering to give the “best of class” of the three legacy companies. This broad product offering is supported by an experienced commercial and technical team able to provide both exceptional products and services to meet customer expectations.
Combining three companies into one entity has been a complex and challenging task over the last two years, compounded by the progression of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has severely affected South Africa in the past 18 months. However, Chromaflo Technologies South Africa is now settled and secure.
With its rich DNA from three legacy companies, Chromaflo Technologies South Africa looks forward to servicing its South African and Sub Saharan African customers in the years to come.
